Don"t Waste Your Life

Don’t Waste Your Life

DON’T WASTE YOUR LIFE

For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10

The Bible tells us that we must all appear before the Judgement Seat of Christ. The word “appear” can be translated, “to make manifest.” This suggests that the purpose of the Judgement seat of Christ is a public manifestation, or demonstration, of the essential characters and motives of an individual. This is a truth we must always keep in mind as we live our earthly lives. There is a day of accountability coming.

This judgement is not about whether we will get to heaven, because it takes place in heaven. Rather it is about the rewards believers will receive. Jesus said, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work” (Revelation 22:12). God has a reward for those who have faithfully served Him.

What will be judged, according to 2 Corinthians 5:10, is what we have done, whether good or bad. The word used for “bad” in this verse is not only speaking of something ethically or morally evil, because Christ paid the price for our sins at the cross of Calvary.

Rather, the word used for “bad” speaks of evil of another kind. Another way to translate it would be “good-for-nothingness,” or “worthlessness.” The idea of good or bad is not of someone who has done something outwardly and blatantly wrong. The idea is of someone who wasted his or her life, a life that was good for nothing. It is someone who has thrown away his or her time, energy, and life in general.

What are you doing with your life for Christ’s sake? I know what He has done for you. What are you doing for Him? Are you wasting your life on nothingness?

Prayer: Ask God to deliver you from wasteful living and make you alert and committed towards your divine assignment in Christ.

Scriptural Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-11

1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,

3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.

4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.

5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.

7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

The Judgment Seat of Christ

9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, …
