Thirst For GOD

Thirst For GOD

A THIRST FOR GOD

O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

When people fall in love they reorder their priorities to embrace their new-found love. They feel differently, talk differently and behave differently. I know of a man who spent the night sleeping outside the home of his girlfriend, just to ‘feel close’ to her. We can tell how much we love God by our passion for Him. When we love God, we tell Him:

• You are my God. That is the first and most important commitment each one of us must make – to make the Lord, our God. He is not just the creator of the universe or some impersonal force that governs nature. He is our God because we have a personal relationship with Him.

• Early will I seek you. When the Lord is our God, He also becomes our first point of call at all times. He is our first priority. Whether we are making decisions, seeking guidance or making an investment, our first consideration must always be to seek God’s will and purpose for our lives.

• My soul thirsts for you. We must nurture an intense desire within our hearts for God. We must pursue His word, presence and glory every waking day of our lives. The things that make us most excited and get us going must be things that matter to God.

• My flesh longs for you. Loving God means preserving our bodies as His temples and honoring Him through our words and actions. Our physical appetites must be yielded to our Lord.

Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to create in you a desire to know God intimately and revive your zeal and passion.

Scriptural Reading: Psalm 63:1-11

1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.

2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.

3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You.

4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.

6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.

7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.

9 But those who seek my life, to destroy it, Shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

10 They shall fall by the sword; They shall be a portion for jackals.

11 But the king shall rejoice in God; Everyone who swears by Him shall glory; But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.
